Program Overview:
Schools submit grant requests to DoingUntoOthers specifying their needs and the amount of the requested grants.
In order for their applications to be considered, schools must perform a community outreach.
A description of the outreach must be submitted with the grant request on a separate form.
Faculty and student family members are encouraged to participate in the outreach.
The outreach can include a variety of options, such as picking up litter in neighborhood parks, visiting patients at local hospitals who are alone, volunteering at the local SPCA, putting a new coat of paint on a senior citizens home, spending time visiting with seniors at the home, delivering meals to shut-ins, etc. There is no limit on outreach options. The only requirement is it must benefit others in the community. Some student’s families may have members with related skills, contacts, equipment, or other resources which may be helpful, depending on the nature of the outreach.
DoingUntoOthers presents a summarized list of grant requests and their corresponding outreaches to local businesses. They select the school and outreach they wish to be personally involved with.
Employees of the donating businesses are asked to participate in the community outreaches with the recipient schools.
This adds to the size, scope and impact of the outreaches. |
